Just when you thought Kawhi Leonard‘s career season couldn’t get any better, he’s somehow topped himself again. With a 45th-straight home victory on the table, Kawhi tied the best scoring output of his career (32 points) while pulling down 8 rebounds in JUST 24 MINUTES.
24 of Kawhi’s 32 came in the first half (career-high points in a half) as the Spurs built a nine-point lead at the break and never looked back (won 112-88). It was the latest performance highlighting how special Leonard is and how rapidly he’s risen to DIFFERENT BREED status.
Not only did he go full-force as a stopper tonight, per usual, Kawhi shot an efficient 52% and got clean looks in a variety of ways: attacking the basket, turnaround Js out of the post, transition finishes, his patented above the break 3.
He even threw in a trick shot for good measure:
Now, it wasn’t all roses for San Antonio’s silent superstar, who drew contact from Amar’e Stoudemire during the third and left the game with a thigh contusion. Leonard was not re-inserted as a precautionary measure, so Spurs fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
A career-night, in exactly half the time of an entire game, is all the buzz for Leonard and the Spurs, who still have an outside shot at the West’s top spot.
