NBA Role: (raw) athletic pivot • UnderDOG

Willie Cauley-Stein: a new wave, defensive-oriented pivot w/ a bright future on SAC’s front line; when it comes to defensive prospects, WCS checks every box: very athletic, nice help-side shot blocker, can switch out on almost anyone as a hedge man (guards have a tough time getting around WCS when he steps out to defend); but what makes Cauley-Stein a new wave big? his unusual offense – gets the majority of his points via transition buckets (runs the floor like a forward) & oops but that’s not all: pay attn over the course of any Kings game & WCS is making turnarounds here and there, short corner Js off screens, and baby floaters off the dribble*; needs much better focus on the glass; similar to a young Tyson Chandler (PHX) on defense, no true comparison on offense; plays a little too fast: gets hurried up (needs to work on offensive timing**); how will Coach Joerger use his WCS in the future? – needs a PG to get him easy basketsSacramento’s undisputed X-Factor

*infrequent doses, sure

**on the flip side, Willie’s defensive timing is advanced
