Trey Lyles (UTA) – “Mamba”

Profile:
Power Forward: 6’10, 234 lbs; 3rd year, Kentucky
NBA Role: inside-out power forward • UnderDOG
Is Trey ‘Mamba’ Lyles is a talented, inside-out prospect; Lyles reps the new wave of big men to enter the league: guard skills – can break his man down off the dribble, hit open Js and even push the break; but one thing Trey does that most bigs his size don’t? – he hits midrangers coming off curls, even after a dribble in some cases* – tough to stop a powerful 6’10 guy coming around screens ready to make a play**; average passer, should learn a lot studying teammate Boris Diaw (UTA); not the most impressive athlete or defender – tweener on D, ends up checking fours on most night; the faster Lyles becomes an every-night ‘third’ big (10-12 points, 6-7 boards in the Jon Leuer (DET) mold), the faster Utah will contend – Jazz are a collection of youth meets experience – can Lyles find his way?
*Lyles is comfortable taking a couple dribbles, then rising
**Coach John Calipari must’ve worked on this drill at UK – Willie Cauley-Stein (SAC) is also comfortable making the same type of shot
Signature Move: one dribble, pull-up
(*factory setting*) NBA 2K17 Rating: 72
