Omer Asik (NOP) – “Asik & Destroy”

Profile:
Center: 7’0, 255 lbs; 8th year, Turkey
NBA Role: backup center
Big Omer Asik, a very well compensated* UnderDOG, (ideally) makes an impact on the glass and near the basket; hasn’t had much continuity since leaving Chicago – Asik is a defensive-minded center who’s rapidly declined as a rim protector in today’s game; hands of stone (struggles w/ the catch part of catching & finishing): it’s not a gimme he’ll secure the rock, but if he does, Big O finds a way to finish one of those unnecessary pause layups**; doesn’t have a lot of finesse but takes his time before deciding what to do (reversing back, hook shot, scoop); turned into a decent roll finisher – one of a few true centers (the only European one?) who strictly scores via roll catches, put backs, etc.; solid help side defense is Asik’s saving grace, though his ineptitude on offense has worn thin; best suited in short stretches off the bench?
*signed $60 million extension in 2015
