Kenneth Faried (DEN) – “Manimal”

Profile:
Power Forward: 6’8, 228 lbs; 7th year, Morehead State
NBA Role: active power forward • Star UnderDOG
The ‘Manimal’ – Kenneth Faried is kinda an enigma at power forward – he out-hustles and muscles guys but is known to throw out smoke balls during games – prone to disappear for long stretches; in his DEN co-starring role, Faried’s good for relentless rebounding, flash scoring* & finishing (on the break or via roll catch); when it’s a good night, Faried dictates flow and stays active but when it’s a bad night, there’s defensive lapses aplenty, as well as misplaced focus on offense (like settling for jumpers); has to bring ‘A’ game every night – could legit be replaced by any of DEN’s young bigs or a ready-made vet like D. Arthur; quick hook from Mike Malone? – Faried needs a return to his old, energizer play style**; despite his relative effectiveness, Faried is not the easiest player to find a role for – he’s undersized, does not defend & his outside game is still a work in progress; largely plagued by inconsistency, Faried is starting to find a rhythm in Mike Malone’s new system
*keeps his hands up when flashing (good target) – has an athletic hook package on 2K
**part of an ‘ensemble cast’ his entire professional life, can the Manimal separate himself from Coach Malone’s other bigs by honing in on the glass & hedging out harder on screens?
