Avery Bradley (BOS) – “Avery Damn Day” | “AB”

Profile:
Guard: 6’2, 180 lbs; 8th year, Texas
NBA Role: two-way combo guard
The Marcus Peters of pro basketball, Boston’s Avery Bradley is an absolute ball-hawk; besides Tony Allen (MEM), Bradley is THE best guard defender in the league – hounds you 25/8; on the surface, you might think, “6’2 guard-good athlete-fits the defensive profile-what’s the big deal?” – that may have been the case in previous seasons (Bradley relied more on his raw quickness, lateral movement) but in year 8, he’s just one step ahead of everyone else*; holds it down v. much larger opponents, plays passing lanes extremely well, carries out Coach Stevens’s defensive strategy to a tee; wired, locked in both ways – specializes in escape dribble Js & 3s – Bradley has a few games a year where he catches fire and carries Boston to victory; needs to improve PnR playmaking & ball-handling when operating w/ the rock; very good rebounder • avg. over 6/night in ’16-’17; tremendous responsibility as a veteran leader** on an Eastern contender – but can AB still improve?
*Bradley’s wingspan is a little over 6’7, which isn’t crazy by any means. So what makes him such an elite defender? He’s learned to combine elite foot speed/lateral quickness w/ patience
Bradley doesn’t bite for many fakes, is quicker than most but doesn’t waste much energy – it’s why he’s able to successfully check elite players for over 33/minutes night:
**AB has taken more of a vocal role as QB of the defense

Proposal for All-Star Weekend: pit anyone from a fan to HS player to semi-pro baller and see if they can cross half-court, w/ a live dribble (gauntlet style), before Avery swipes it away – come on, it can’t be worse than the Legends Game!
