It’s July 2nd. The deals we’ve seen in the past 24 hours have been absolutely insane. With the NBA’s salary cap jumping to $94 million, you’re seeing INCREDIBLE transactions get done. Here’s a quick look at all of the deals!:
F Nicolas Batum re-signed w/ Charlotte: 5 years/$120 million – Charlotte retains its versatile playmaker with a max contract.
F Marvin Williams re-signed w/ Charlotte: 4 years/$54 million – Excellent value for Marv, whose defense and outside shooting broke through a year ago.
G DeMar DeRozan re-signed w/ Toronto: 5 years/$145 million – DeRozan may be inefficient sometimes but without him, Toronto is nowhere near contender status.
G Bradley Beal re-signed w/ Washington: 5 years/$128 million – Beal’s young and talented but certainly a risky move considering his rocky injury history.
C Ian Mahinmi signed w/…Washington: 4 years/$64 million – Ian was great with Indy last season. Excellent defender whose impact will be immediate.
C Andre Drummond re-signed w/ Detroit: 5 years/$130 million – Big Dre’s an All-Star and far from reaching his full potential. No-brainer here.
G Ish Smith signed w/…the Detroit Pistons: 3 years/$32 million – This is Ish Smith’s 10TH TEAM in 7 years. A speedy floor threat, Smith secures Stan Van’s backup PG spot.
F Jon Leuer signed w/…Detroit: 4 years/$42 million – Jon Leuer (quietly) improved over the past couple seasons. After stepping up his three-point game (38% in 2015-16), Detroit adds another shooter next to Drummond.
C Hassan Whiteside re-signed w/ Miami: 4 years/$98 million – “Agent Block” announced his free agency decision via Snapchat…after bouncing around the basketball universe, he’s found a true home in Miami.
C Al Jefferson signed w/…the Indiana Pacers: 3 years/$30 million – Big Al can score score on the inside, which Indy would love to feature in Nate McMillan’s new system.
C Dwight Howard signed w/…the Atlanta Hawks: 3 years/$70.5 million – Dwight’s going home! The Atlanta native inked a 3-year pact in an attempt to revitalize his career and (potentially) compete for a title.
G-F Kent Bazemore re-signed w/ Atlanta: 4 years/$70 million – Bazemore is paiddd. That’s what happens when you emerge into a two-way force before the age of 30.
C Joakim Noah signed w/…the New York Knicks: 4 years/$72 million – Joakim Noah is reunited w/ Derrick Rose in the Big Apple. If healthy, he could slide right in and stabilize the middle.
G Courtney Lee signed w/…New York: 4 years/$48 million – Lee rounds out a solid starting five (Rose, Noah, Carmelo, Porzingis) for the Knicks. Is it enough to contend?
F Chandler Parsons signed w/…the Memphis Grizzlies: 4 years/$96 million – In a mild shocker, Parsons took his talents to Memphis. He’s a game-changer if not wearing street clothes.
G Mike Conley re-signed w/ the Grizz for…5 YEARS/$153 MILLION
*DING DING DING* Mikey’s the big winner!!!
In a major shocker, Mike Conley Jr. is now stakeholder of the richest contract in NBA history. That’s what happens when you’re labeled “underrated” your entire career.
Now, people hate him. Good job, everybody.
G-F Evan Fournier re-signed w/ the Orlando Magic: 5 years/$85 million – Crazy value for Fournier, who shot lights out from beyond the arc (40%) and could break into All-Star territory without having to share shots w/ Vic Oladipo.
G DJ Augustin signed w/…Orlando: 4 years/$29 million – Veteran PG with nice scoring instincts. Reasonable deal.
F Jeff Green signed w/…Orlando: 1 year/$15 million – Y? (Honestly, it’s low risk and if it’s not working out, trade him at the deadline for a second-rounder)
C Bismack Biyombo signed w/…Orlando: 4 years/$72 million – Ummm, Biyombo, Serge Ibaka, Nik Vucevic & Aaron Gordon vying for frontcourt action? Trade winds are picking up.
G Jeremy Lin signed w/…the Brooklyn Nets: 3 years/$36 million – Brook-LIN! Jeremy’s back in NY but this time donning black & white. Could become a face of the franchise before long (seriously).
F Trevor Booker signed w/…Brooklyn: 2 years/$18 million – The Nets lack toughness. Trevor Booker is tough.
C Justin Hamilton signed w/…Brooklyn: 2 years/$6 million – After a one-year hiatus overseas, Hamilton will fight for reserve minutes up front (DOG Profile Coming Soon!).
C Timofey Mozgov signed w/…the LOS ANGELES LAKERS: 4 years/$64 million – Huh!? Mozgov barely got off the bench during Cleveland‘s title run, yet he’s currently projected as LA’s starting center. Saving money for next summer, perhaps?
G Jordan Clarkson re-signed w/ the Lakers: 4 years/$50 million – Clarkson wasn’t going anywhere…obviously. This is just an appetizer, though – the next time he signs will break triple digits.
F Luol Deng signed w/…the Lakers: 4 years/$72 million – Luol Deng is the veteran presence LA’s young guns need. Nice move that should pay off beyond the box score.
F Ryan Anderson signed w/…the Houston Rockets: 4 years/$80 million – Ryno will put up huge numbers in Mike D’Antoni’s free-flowing system. His defense tho…?
G Eric Gordon signed w/…Houston: 4 years/$52 million – If his knees hold up, this isn’t horrible.
C Al Horford signed w/…the Boston Celtics: 4 years/$113 million – WOW. Horford instantly makes the C’s a more attractive free agent destination & pseudo-contender.
Not bad, Ainge.
F Evan Turner signed w/…the Portland Trail Blazers: 4 years/$70 million – He has to start now, right? Big get for Portland regardless – Turner is the third ball-handler Terry Stotts lacked all last year.
F Darrell Arthur re-signed w/ the Denver Nuggets: 3 years/$26 million – Arthur and his undervalued game returns to Denver on a nice deal.
G Matthew Dellavedova signed w/…the Milwaukee Bucks: 4 years/$38 million – This was an odd one but sure, Delly’s not the worst option here.
F Mirza Teletovic signed w/…Milwaukee: 3 years/$30 million – Milwaukee doesn’t have ANY reliable snipers on the roster. Enter: Mirza Teletovic.
G Jerryd Bayless signed w/…the Philadelphia 76ers: 3 years/$27 million – The Sixers needed another vet. Bayless will score and make plays in the second unit.
F Solomon Hill signed w/…the New Orleans Pelicans: 4 years/$52 million – Hill’s a relative unknown to a lot of fans but he’s scrappy and is an improving shooter. Should carve out a big role in New Orleans.
G E’Twaun Moore signed w/…New Orleans 4 years/$34 million – A rare, two-way combo guard off the bench – Moore really showed his worth from downtown a year ago.
G Austin Rivers re-signed w/ Los Angeles: 3 years/$35 million – Austin parlayed his impressive postseason into a nice deal. Every bit deserving, especially if LA loses Jamal Crawford.
F Jared Dudley signed w/…the Phoenix Suns: 3 years/$30 million – JMZ is back in Phoenix! Dudley brings leadership to a young Suns bunch.
F Joe Johnson signed w/…the Utah Jazz: 2 years/$22 million – What a random, yet smart transaction. JJ can slide into a Sixth Man role and focus on getting buckets – he also fits with Utah’s other huge wings.
G Arron Afflalo signed w/…the Sacramento Kings: 2 years/$25 million – Hmm, pretty nice pickup for the Kings. Will takeover the starting two spot and provide wing scoring and defense.
F Anthony Tolliver signed w/…the Kings: 2 years/$16 million – Everyone needs a stretch four!
…over a billion total dollars shelled out in just two days. Summer ’16 is living up to the hype so far.
